Sorry, Rush. This time you’re wrong.

Far be it from me to disagree with Rush Limbaugh and defend Barack Obama.  But this time, I have to come to the defense of the President.  On Fox News Sunday, Limbaugh called President Obama’s recent trip to Dover a “photo op.”

I disagree.

This time youre wrong.

This time you're wrong.

Put motive aside for just a moment.  The primary responsibility of President of the United States is that of Commander-in-Chief.  In other words, Obama was doing his job.  Just as I believe George W. Bush was right when he rallied Sailors and Marines when he flew aboard an S-3 Viking to the USS Lincoln, I view Obama’s visit to Delaware was the right thing to do in this situation.

Yes, Obama’s poll numbers are sagging.  But who really cares about polls outside of political advisers and pundits?  And, yes, Obama’s track record regarding his military prowess is beginning to rival that of Jimmy Carter.  But when the President arrives to publicly welcome home fallen troops and comfort the grieving families, can we not put politics aside for just that short time?

Leave the man alone on this one, Rush.  You are better suited when arguing in the arena of ideals.

I believe Obama was there for attention to himself as usual, Its time people face what he is really all about he is “campaign Obama” nothing more than that to bad for us especially in the bad times Americans are facing now in our country.

  • Still Broke:

Obama show up for a photo op? Hard to believe isn’t it. I mean it isn’t like he is on TV more than any president in history. He has taken it to a whole new level! You can hardly walk by a TV and NOT see Obama on it.

Poll numbers sagging, can’t make a decision when it counts, cares not what the public wants, it is only Obama he is concerned with, Chicago Politics at it’s finest, you can say anything you want as long as you don’t disagree with The Obama. I can’t imagine why anyone would really be suspicious of his motives!

I believe you are giving the President too much credit. I spent 31 years in the USAF under seven presidents, so I think I can speak with some authority.

There is no doubt this trip was part of the role of being Commander in Chief. But the question which must be asked is why did he do it the way he did? If this was primarily to show his concern for the troops, he could have gone without the cameras – the word would have gotten out to the folks in uniform. And he would have given morale a big shot in the arm.

But he came with press corps. That changes the emphasis from the fallen to him. I don’t know if it was his decision or his staff to bring the press, but it was a tangle-footed effort to do the right thing – or at least look like he was doing the right thing. This was a photo op AND a wasted opportunity to show our warriors that he really cares about them.

    Andy,

I agree with you 500%. He did his job. I admit I am an Obama supporter. Trust me there are areas in which his judgement can be questioned. You can question his foreign policy, the attempts to overhaul health policy and delivery in the US, and his economic strategies. The trip to Dover was not an event that merited such ruthless criticism. Conservatives and Republicans now appear as savage as the Left was during the Reagan years. Lets have an honest and robust debate on the issues. I happen to think some Republican legislators have great ideas that should be given serious consideration. but they end up being lost in the din and noise generated by teabaggers and other right wing reactionaries! Any great ideas Republicans have regarding fiscal policy, overhaul of health care delivery, and good governance get lost in all the noise regarding Gay Marriage, Abortion, and other issues that are private and nobody elses business. Come on Republicans come up with some great ideas as Reagan did. Teabags somehow brings up imagery that is tired and well maybe gay.

    Mr Hefty:

    Respectfully sir, I disagree.

This was a photo-op, and when I initially heard the report of President Obama’s presence at Dover AFB to witness the return of our fallen warriors, I knew it was not a focus on those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of this nation, but a focus on himself for political reasons. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

President Bush was excoriated and criticized up and down about his so-called callousness and failure to visit the families of any service member who died in the defense of this nation.
He visited with many of the families in their homes and received them personally at the White House but he kept those visits private and without the mainstream press. The focus was on those families and the loved one they lost in battle as it should have been and the press was notified AFTER the visits took place.

Rush Limbaugh accurately described the President’s visit as a Photo-Op and that is the truth. The press was angry that they were not present to chronicle the PRIVATE visits of President Bush with the families of our war dead so THEY could characterize them as a photo-op.

Neither fading or revising historical fact will sweeten your sour grapes.

Obama is lying scum. Does NO ONE remember the recent diatribe from that jerk regarding the insurance question which was directed toward & with regard to injured soldiers ??
He essentially questioned their patriotism because they didn’t want to pay certain costs associated with & ENTIRELY due their injury while in battle ??
Now the scum goes to meet the boat, conveniently as his party is being handed ITS KASS ( rhymes with ) in the New Jersey & Virginia elections ??
Obama – the photo op opportunist….
