We’ve had reminders this week, but it’s nothing we haven’t known for a very long time. Hatred of Jews and of Israel is historically unhinged, irrational and intellectually dishonest. It goes back thousands of years and there will never be an end to it.
I suppose that people’s view of this phenomenon falls into three categories: 1) Those who recognize how utterly wrong it is; 2) Those who participate in it; 3) Those who don’t look deep enough to avoid buying the nonsense that it’s somehow just two parties who don’t seem to be able to get along.
But what’s rarely said is the ultimate, brass tax truth: The Jews are God’s chosen people, and that’s why so many hate them so much.
Consider three events that occurred this week:
– Israeli naval commandos raid a ship that sought to break the naval blockade of Gaza, only to be ambushed by armed “peace activists” and responding by killing nine of the ambushers. Anyone interested in the truth later learned that the “peace activists” were funded by terror groups seeking to arm anti-Israeli terrorists by way of this “aid ship.” Of course, most media reports completely ignored this fact and presented the story as if the Israelis had brutally and wantonly slaughtered innocent peace activists for no reason whatsoever.
When it’s Israel we’re talking about, it’s OK to lie.
– Helen Thomas – the insane, deranged, complete joke of a White House correspondent for Hearst Newspapers . . . a repulsive woman who has no business working in journalism – declared during Jewish Heritage Day (of all things) at the White House that the Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and go back to Germany and Poland, where six million of them were slaughtered, which was the reason, after all, the United Nations created the nation of Israel as a homeland for them in 1948. She later “apologized” for making the mistake of saying what she actually thinks when a video camera was rolling. Helen Thomas will not be fired, and will suffer no repercussions whatsoever.

When it’s Israel we’re talking about, it’s OK to advocate ethnic cleansing.
– A court in Egypt ruled that it’s legal for Egyptian men to be stripped of their citizenship if they marry Israeli women, but only Jewish Israeli women. It’s OK to strip their children of citizenship as well. Remember, Egypt is one of the few Arab nations that actually has diplomatic relations with Israel.
When it’s Israel we’re talking about, it’s OK to practice blatant racism and religious discrimination.
Mind you, these three events occurred just this week. Never mind the proclamations of nutjobs like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that Israel should be wiped off the map, prompting explanations from apologists in the West that we surely just misunderstood the translation. Never mind countless UN resolutions condemning Israel for supposed “human rights violations” and completely ignoring the actions of its enemies to blow up innocent women and children for the cause.
Why does all this happen?
As long ago as the writing of the Psalms, it was predicted. Psalm 83:
1 O God, do not keep silent;
be not quiet, O God, be not still.
2 See how your enemies are astir,
how your foes rear their heads.
3 With cunning they conspire against your people;
they plot against those you cherish.
4 “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation,
that the name of Israel be remembered no more.”
5 With one mind they plot together;
they form an alliance against you-
6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
of Moab and the Hagrites,
7 Gebal, Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
8 Even Assyria has joined them
to lend strength to the descendants of Lot.
Israel’s neighbors plot to destroy her today for the same reason they did back then. They reject the God who chose her to produce the seed that would bring his people to redemption. And this is the connection between the jihadists of the Middle East and American leftists and secularists who buy into the notion of moral equivalence, or worse, the moral inferiority of Israel.
The jihadists have created their own God, one who rewards them with 72 virgins when they blow themselves up in spectacular murder/suicides designed to take out infidels. Their American apologists may not necessarily embrace their Muslim God, but they are just as adamant in opposing the God of Christian and Jewish doctrine – the one who (they think) wants to take away all their happiness and enjoyment of life.
So it’s a marriage of convenience. Hate Israel, hate the doctrine that establishes her as special and chosen, throw off the shackles of Christian morality and party like it’s . . . well, 1999 is fading in the rear view mirror, but any time will work for them.
It’s only fair to point out that a good many secularists, and even devout atheists, are intellectually honest enough to reject this anti-Semitic nonsense. This includes writers like Charles Krauthammer and HotAir’s Allahpundit. Kudos to them for their honesty. It’s also only fair to point out that there are those who identify themselves as Christians, like Pat Buchanan, who embrace these vile lies. There are exceptions to most every rule.
But that doesn’t change the fact that hatred of Israel originates, and always has, with hatred of the true God who made the Jews his chosen people. Rejection of God has always prompted people to do astoundingly dishonest and irrational things. When you’re trying to make sense of how and why people can believe the nonsense they say in their attacks on the Jewish state, this is really the only thing you need to know.
