Someone should tell Obama: Business people are not stupid
After I published my 2005 book, They Think You’re Stupid, I thought I should have titled it They Think We Are All Stupid All the Time because it appeared that pure politicians, especially liberals, didn’t think any of us were capable of seeing through their denial, deceptions and lack of leadership.

Not a clue.
Based on President Obama’s latest speeches and comments from other prominent liberals like Howard Dean, the latter title would have been more appropriate. They continue to try to convince the public that their failed policies are working, that they need more time, and that more federal spending plus bigger government are the answers to our problems.
BREAKING: Mubarak steps down in Egypt (with live video)
We’ll add details as we get them. For now, here is some live, raw video of the scene in the streets, via MSNBC.
The AP reports that Mubarak has essentially handed over power to the military. Perhaps this is merely a first step in a long process that will lead to democracy, but that’s a rather unsettling piece of news, isn’t it?

The real problem with Christopher Lee
It’s not the morality issue I have with now-former Congressman Christopher Lee (R-New York).
In fact, let me say it: “Congressman, go ahead, once out of office, lie, tell women you’re 39 (LOL), get a divorce, find someone to rock your world, post a full body shot! I don’t care. It is not my place to judge you.”
Congressman and those reading this whose jaws just hit the table – did you catch it?
“Once out of office!” Why? Those who run for office accept, or should accept, that they are held to a higher standard. Once elected to Congress, focus must be maintained on matters of the greatest importance to our nation. An individual riddled with ethics problems, and a wife holding a gun to their privates, does not have the ability to provide the focus needed to hold these positions.
In a time when our nation is engaged in multiple wars, high unemployment and attempts at fundamental changes, all elected officials must hold themselves to a higher standard and stay focused on upholding the oath that he or she taken.

Why does Ben Bernanke want everyone to borrow and spend like the government?
In hearings today before the House Budget Committee, Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) challenged Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke on his policy of “qualitative easing,” which is the printing of new money to be used for the purpose of buying up government debt.
When Ryan reminds Bernanke that endless borrowing is not a feasible long-term economic strategy, Bernanke reveals how much he seems to believe that the opposite is true:

Everybody borrow! Everybody spend!
“By easing conditions in credit and financial markets, these actions encourage spending by households and businesses,” Bernanke said. “A wide range of market indicators suggest that the Federal Reserve’s securities purchases have been effective at easing financial conditions, lending credence to the view that these actions are providing significant support to job creation and economic growth.”
Soapboxes
How many soapboxes can I possibly have and stand on at one time? As many as it takes to hold people accountable and uphold the liberties and freedom of my country. Lately I have more boxes than I would like, simply because individuals are attempting to strip liberties away, one by one in the name of “conservatism”, “equality”, or worse yet, in the name of “God”.

What would he think today?
It was John Adams who said, “It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds”. I can only imagine the soapboxes that John Adams spoke on so many years ago. If he were alive today my bet is he would have many of the same boxes.
Our Founding Fathers provided a governing structure and definition of power within the Constitution. But they did not tell us how a moral life within our country should be led. Why? Our Founding Fathers hoped that we would uphold the Constitution and live our lives according to Judeo-Christian values. Values that are based upon free will and man’s ability to do what is right and follow the teachings of the Jewish prophets and the teachings of Christ – NOT the laws governing the land. Values that were not identical, but promoted the collective and common concept of liberty. Read the rest of this entry »
AOL loves HuffPo: Kenny Lerer’s revenge
When AOL climbed back into the business headlines this week with its pickup of The Huffington Post, all eyes were on the colorful visionary who lent her moniker and outsized aura to the ueber-blog – Arriana Huffington.
But perhaps an even bigger part of the story bears a name you’ve probably never heard of if you operate outside of New York City business circles: Kenneth B. Lerer.
For Kenny, my onetime boss and HuffPo’s chairman and co-founder, the site’s big-dollar purchase by AOL is revenge served cold, and very sweet indeed. After all, the Internet pioneer – then styled AOL Time Warner, and since spun off to regain its independence – showed him the door after the infamous, sad-sack merger, when the long knives from the Time Warner executive suite marked him for career extinction. And he comes back having virtually remade two industries – public relations and journalism – and played a major role in establishing another.
