Obama on Egypt: Let it be
To the tune of “Let it Be” with apologies to Lennon and McCartney:
When I find the world in times of trouble,
Brother Jimmy comes to me
Speaking words of weakness,
Let it be.
In Egypt’s hour of darkness
His example stands right out for me
Spurning our uniqueness
Let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Though they Wikileak us, let it be.
And when freedom-desiring people
In Iran or China grieve,
And there’s an uprising,
Let it be.
For though they are inspiring
They will never hear a word from me,
Answer’s unsurprising.
Let it be.
The State Dinner and Afghanistan: Stepping Up to the Plate

Bob Franken
Unlike the wide coverage given to the tedious meetings President Obama has held about Afghanistan, the planning for the White House State Dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was conducted in complete secrecy.
It’s a pity. First of all, the president himself also convened these discussions, this time assembling his Kitchen Cabinet to help with the decisions.

A highfalutin' affair.
Actually, Michelle Obama sat at the head of this table, but it’s fair to say that Barack was the power behind this throne. As a result the meetings were interminable debates between those who favored one protocol or another.
Particularly valuable, as one might imagine, was the input from Hillary Rodham Clinton who brought a wide variety of experiences to the deliberations. Not only could she share her perspective as Secretary of State and former First Lady, she also spent those many years as Governor’s wife in Arkansas, so her knowledge of “Country Come to Town” society events was unmatched. Pelosi’s terror tactics work: Et tu, Harry?

Kelly Anderson Wright
Congressional Democrats and mainstream media heaped high praise on Speaker Pelosi for finally delivering the House health care reform bill, all 2000+ pages of it. In the aftermath of a liberal love fest that focused more on Pelosi’s historical win than on how close the vote actually was, the question is, will Majority Leader Harry Reid be able to duplicate Pelosi’s success in the Senate?

Will Harry Reid adopt Pelosi's tactics?
Pelosi claimed the win was easy, but facts, fans and foes say otherwise. Pelosi’s final push to birth H.R. 3962 required a Saturday night, rush-rush hush-hush roll call vote, when most Americans were already asleep or too pooped to pay attention. At roughly 11 p.m. EST, Pelosi and Company got their last 3 votes out of 435 possible, passing the House version of health care reform by just .7%. Hardly a mandate or majority, “barely” describes it better.
An American Woman got ‘er done: Sgt. Kimberly Munley, U.S. Army veteran

Kelly Anderson Wright
In America, little girls learn they can grow up to become anything they want: ballerinas, movie stars… even Tom Cruise’s wife. Some dream of becoming basketball players, business owners or heads of state.
Thankfully, a few brave lassies become soldiers, cops and heroes. And sometimes they become all three, without wiggling their noses or clicking their ruby slippers.

Little girls can become big heroes... in America, home of the brave.
Let us forget, just for a moment, what ails our nation. Congress, Pelosi and health care reform pale in light of the Ft. Hood massacre. Veteran’s Day should be every day, when we celebrate the men and women who bravely and selflessly protect human life, liberty and freedom, in battlefields and war-torn cities around the world, and less predictably, in Killeen, Texas. That’s where a little girl all-grown-up became a true red-white-and-blue American hero, in the blink of a feminine eyelash.
Sgt. Kimberly Munley, 34, is a DoD civilian police officer at Ft. Hood. She is also a veteran, having served as a loyal soldier in the United States Army. As such, Sgt. Munley took an oath to defend her Army brothers and sisters against any hostile force, even if it meant killing a fellow officer. Read the rest of this entry »
What does Obama think of the recent election results? Well…

Bob Maistros
I can’t believe this. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.
Creigh Deeds. Geesh. The Washington Post hands him “macaca” on steroids with that Bob McDonnell treatise story. The “quad-fecta”: McDonnell alienates gays, women in the workforce, every female in Virginia on contraceptives and every couple shacking up from Norfolk to Fairfax.

Thanks for nothing.
Change you can believe in…whatever!

Bob Franken
Whatever.
Pronounced “WUT-’EVAH!!”. However you say it, the thought pretty much captures the surly mindset of most Americans a year after Barack Obama inspired a glimmer of hope in “Change You Can Believe In”.
No matter who is to blame, what most have seen since then is “change” all right – the nation’s

Not so much.
problems, starting with the economy – got much worse. And as the country tries to claw out of collapse, the only ones who are really benefiting so far are the super-rich, the ones who got us into this mess to begin with.
Obama’s 800-pound gorilla
Lawrence J. Haas
In late February, a week after signing the landmark $787 billion economic recovery bill into law, President Obama tried to change the focus of debate in Washington by shifting attention from the short-term necessity of reviving the economy to the long-term challenge of reducing soaring budget deficits.
On Monday, February 23, he hosted a “fiscal summit” with congressional leaders, other lawmakers

You call this recovery?
and outside experts to highlight the problem. A day later, he spoke to a joint session of Congress and outlined his plans to begin addressing it. Two days after that, he issued a 134-page budget blueprint.
Entitled “A New Era of Responsibility,” the blueprint proclaimed a sharp reversal from Bush-era recklessness. “[W]e must,” Obama wrote, “begin the process of making the tough choices necessary to restore fiscal discipline, cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term in office, and put our nation on sound fiscal footing.”
A Fox in the White House

Bob Franken
What possibly could the Fox News executive and President Obama’s press secretary have to talk about? Surely they weren’t negotiating some sort of truce to end the silly War of Petulance the president’s peeps have declared on Fox. Say it ain’t so.

No more feud?
Were they describing some sort of quid pro quo? Did the administration offer to recognize that news media have the right to be critical of a president no matter how little he is used to it? Did the Fox guy offer to lighten up, to be a little less shrill about FNC’s biases? Does this mean there will be no more ” Tea Parties”? Let’s hope not.
Obama and the media: It’s not a sing-along

Bob Franken
There’s a song by the blues ensemble “Fathead” with a terrific title: “First Class Riff-Raff”. I would call it to the attention of all our big-headed politicians who get so caught up in their delusions of grandeur they don’t remember how Americans see them: As First Class Riff Raff.

Riff-raff.
It’s easy for them to forget that the their esteem and the terrific honorifics are merely the reflected glory of their offices. We chose them after they probably went through demeaning gyrations in order to be elevated onto their government pedestals. So it’s easy to understand why we take great delight in knocking them off.
